Space To Be Counselling

FAQs

What can counselling help with?

Counselling can help with a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, stress, low mood, relationship challenges, low self-esteem, grief and loss, life transitions, trauma, and the lasting effects of difficult experiences. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Sometimes people come to therapy simply because they want a space to reflect, grow and understand themselves better.

Person-Centred Counselling is based on the belief that every person has the capacity for growth and healing. Rather than giving advice or telling you what to do, I offer a safe, accepting and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace. Together, we work towards a deeper understanding of yourself and what matters most to you.

A trauma-informed approach recognises that past experiences can have a significant impact on how we think, feel and relate to others. My priority is creating an environment where you feel safe, respected and in control of your therapeutic journey. We work collaboratively and at a pace that feels comfortable for you, with no pressure to discuss difficult experiences before you are ready.

No. You are always in control of what you choose to share. Therapy is not about forcing you to revisit painful experiences. Building safety, trust and emotional stability is often the first step. We will work together in a way that feels manageable and supportive for you.
Psychoeducation involves sharing information that can help you understand your thoughts, feelings and responses more clearly. For example, learning how trauma affects the nervous system can help people make sense of anxiety, hypervigilance, emotional overwhelm or difficulties with trust. Many clients find this understanding reduces self-blame and increases self-compassion.
Confidentiality is a fundamental part of counselling. What you share will remain private, except in rare situations where there is a serious concern about your safety or the safety of someone else, or where I am legally required to share information. This will be explained fully before counselling begins.

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and explore what has brought you to counselling. We will discuss your hopes for therapy, any questions you may have, and how we might work together. There is no pressure, and you are welcome to share only what feels comfortable.

There is no set number of sessions. Some people find short-term counselling helpful, while others prefer longerterm support. We can review your needs regularly and work together to decide what feels right for you.
I offer counselling sessions online via a secure platform and/or in person, depending on your preferences and availability. Details of current options can be discussed when you make contact.
Absolutely. Taking the first step can feel daunting, especially if you’ve never had counselling before. Many people feel nervous about reaching out. My aim is to make the process as welcoming and supportive as possible, and there is no obligation if you decide counselling is not right for you.
The relationship between counsellor and client is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. I offer an initial conversation where you can ask questions and get a feel for how I work. It is important that you feel comfortable, heard and understood, and I welcome you taking the time to decide whether I am the right fit for you.
You can expect warmth, compassion and acceptance. I will offer a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore whatever is important to you. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you make sense of your experiences, recognise your strengths and move towards healing, growth and living more fully as yourself.

Individual counselling sessions are £50 per 50-minute session. Payment is required before or at the time of the session and can be made via bank transfer.

I aim to be transparent about fees, and there are no hidden costs.

Yes. I offer a free 15-20 minute telephone or online conversation. This gives you an opportunity to ask questions, discuss what has brought you to counselling, and decide whether I feel like the right counsellor for you.

There is no obligation to continue after this conversation.

Most clients choose to attend weekly sessions, as this helps build momentum and consistency within the therapeutic relationship. However, we can discuss a frequency that best meets your needs and circumstances.

Payment can be made by bank transfer prior to each session. Details will be provided when we arrange our first appointment.

If you need to cancel or rearrange a session, I ask for at least 48 hours’ notice. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice may be charged at the full session fee.

Clients are welcome to book sessions on an ongoing basis. If you would like to purchase a block of sessions in advance I can offer discounts for advance payments.  Please contact me to discuss the sessions and pricing

Therapy is a personal investment in your emotional wellbeing, self-understanding and future growth. Many people find that having a dedicated, confidential space to explore their experiences can have a lasting positive impact on their relationships, confidence, resilience and overall quality of life.
